In a road accident on the East Coast Road (ECR) in Ramanathapuram district, two men were killed on the spot on Saturday morning after an unidentified four-wheeled vehicle rammed into their two-wheeler near Thirupalaikudi.The deceased have been identified as Kavin, 33, of Perumbathur and P. Raju, 29, from Panchankulam.Both hailed from Sankarankovil taluk in the Tenkasi district and were employed at a salt pan company in Uppoor.According to police, the two men were riding a bike following a water tanker that was transporting water from Avarendhal village to their salt pan company.When the duo in bike attempted to overtake the water tanker, an unidentified four-wheeled vehicle speeding from behind collided with their motorcycle. Due to the collision, both riders sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.Upon receiving information, the Thirupalaikudi Police rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem examination.Initial investigations revealed that the water tanker involved in the accident was driven by 26-year-old Velmurugan from Panchankulam, Tenkasi, and was unregistered. Meanwhile, the driver of the four-wheeled vehicle which caused the accident fled the scene immediately after the crash.The Thirupalaikudi Police have registered a case and are in search of the accused.
