The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Friday carried out simultaneous surprise checks at 41 Municipal Corporations, Municipality, and Town Panchayat offices across Tamil Nadu on Friday, uncovering ₹31.27 lakh in unaccounted cash and Google Pay (GPay) transactions worth ₹26.70 lakh.The DVAC has launched an inquiry to ascertain whether the money was collected as illegal gratification for providing civic services.The inspections were conducted at three offices functioning under the Municipal Administration, Town Panchayats, and Public Health departments, following complaints alleging the collection of bribes for the delivery of public services.According to the DVAC, the inspections covered civic offices across the State, including the Greater Chennai Corporation’s zonal offices at Kodambakkam, Teynampet, Anna Nagar and Royapuram, besides offices in Kancheepuram, Tambaram, Tiruvannamalai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Nagapattinam, and several other districts.
