Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) conducted a surprise inspection at Thoothukudi Corporation office on Friday and seized ₹7.49 lakh unaccounted cash from the engineering wing.The inspection was part of a State-wide drive carried out by the DVAC in the urban local body offices across Tamil Nadu.A team led by DVAC Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Peter Paul Durai along with inspection cell officer Murugan arrived at the Corporation office at around 4 p.m. and began inspection. Employees and visitors were not allowed to leave the premises during the check.A senior police officer said, during the physical check, they seized ₹10,000 unaccounted cash from the office of the Chief Engineer, ₹4,54,500 from a technical assistant and ₹2,85,000 from an assistant executive engineer.The cash was subsequently seized by the DVAC team, who also conducted inquiries with the officials concerned.Further investigations are on.
