A 17-year-old British teenager has been declared brain-dead after falling from a first-floor hotel balcony in the northern Athens suburb of Halandri early Friday, reports said.

The incident occurred at approximately 5 a.m. Emergency medical personnel rushed the youth to Athens’ Red Cross (Erythros Stavros) Hospital, where doctors later confirmed he had sustained unsurvivable brain injuries. The exact circumstances surrounding the fall remain under active investigation by local police.

Following initial inquiries, authorities arrested a 37-year-old kiosk employee. He faces charges of fatal endangerment, as well as violations of laws regulating the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors. According to police, the employee sold alcohol to the teenager after the minor reportedly presented a fraudulent driver’s license as proof of age.
