According to information obtained by IranWire, Yazdan Ravaei, born on May 31, 1997, was killed by a sniper’s bullet during protests on Friday, January 9, in the Baharan neighborhood of Sabashahr, Tehran. According to an informed source, Yazdan, a father of two young children, worked as a fruit vendor. During the January 9 protests, a sniper targeted his neck.
A source close to the Ravaei family told IranWire that residents of the Baharan neighborhood and Sabashahr turned out in large numbers following protest calls for January 8 and 9, and many individuals were killed in the area. IranWire has previously published the story of Mehran Zand, another individual killed during those days in Sabashahr.
The source close to the family recounted the night of the incident: “When Yazdan was shot, they took him to the hospital. His brother searched extensively for him that night, but since phone lines were cut, no one could inform others. His brother had lost hope and was returning home when a neighbor stopped him and said Yazdan had been hit by birdshot and taken to the hospital.”
However, when Yazdan’s family arrived at the hospital, they were told no such person was there. “His brother caused a scene, and eventually someone told him, ‘Your brother is here. He was killed by live ammunition, but you must go to Kahrizak tomorrow to follow up.’”
