An Athens-based gang of soccer hooligans involved in at least five violent mass brawls with rival fans that had also branched out into drug trafficking – including in schools and prisons – has been broken by the organised crime squad, police said Thursday.

A police statement said 10 suspected gang members were arrested Wednesday in western Attica and Corinthia, while another 29 face charges of belonging to a criminal organisation, grievous bodily harm, robbery, sports law breaches, extortion, arson and violations of laws on drugs and firearms.

Police also arrested seven parents of under-age suspects for neglecting their charges.

The gang is believed to have been active since at least August 2025, was formed of supporters of an unnamed Athens football club and based in their clubhouse. Weapons, firearms and drugs were found during raids on the clubhouse, suspects’ homes and other locations.

Among other attacks, the gang is suspected of robbing and severely beating a man in March, attacking two rival fans in a bar and outside a school and engaging in extortion, violence and arson as part of its drug-dealing concern.
