Counsel for the Peace Movement Party, Chikezie Ekeocha, has defended the decision to seek the setting aside of the Federal High Court judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a political party, insisting the application was driven by alleged misrepresentation of facts and a disputed party logo, not politics.
Speaking with The PUNCH on Wednesday, Ekeocha said the application filed by the PMP became necessary after the party discovered that the judgment affected its own registration process before INEC.
He maintained that the court was right to set aside its earlier judgment after finding that material facts had allegedly been concealed and that the rights of the PMP, which was not joined in the original suit, were affected.
Last Friday, the Federal High Court in Lokoja set aside its earlier judgment directing INEC to register the NDC as a political party.
