A minibus taxi carrying 20 passengers from Cape Town to Mozambique overturned after a mechanical failure with its trailer.
It was a tense morning on the N1 road near Hanover on Wednesday, when a minibus taxi carrying 20 passengers from Cape Town to Mozambique overturned after a mechanical failure with its trailer.
The situation could have been far worse. Of the 20 people on board, which included 14 adults and six children, aged between five and seven, only three sustained minor injuries.
Speaking on the scene, South African Police Service (SAPS) emphasised that their immediate priority was the well-being of the travellers.
"Our first job was to make sure everyone was safe, particularly the children," said SAPS. "We are incredibly relieved that there were no fatalities today, but this serves as a harsh reminder of the dangers on our roads."
