Police believe there were no passengers in the taxi at the time.The victims are a man and a woman, both approximately 30 years old. They both died at the scene, police said.Detective Inspector Tuomas Lindholm commented that, based on current information, the two victims were on the roadway when the collision occurred.Eyewitnesses reported to police that the taxi did not stop. The driver was later apprehended by police at the Itäkeskus parking garage in east Helsinki.The taxi firm Taksi Helsinki confirmed in a company statement that the driver worked through their dispatch service."We are deeply shocked by what happened. We express our deepest condolences to the relatives of the deceased," business manager Juha Sirviö wrote.The statement added the company has suspended the driver and is cooperating with police in the ongoing investigation.The suspect is believed to be a man in his 40s. Police said he is suspected of aggravated drunk driving, aggravated negligent homicide, and aggravated endangerment of traffic safety.
