Two Bulgarian children, an 8-year-old boy and his 10-year-old sibling, were found dead inside a parked car in the Cypriot village of Xylofagu, in the Famagusta district, an area that falls under the jurisdiction of the British Sovereign Base of Dhekelia. The children had recently traveled from Bulgaria to spend their summer vacation with their father, who lives in the village.
According to local authorities, the tragedy unfolded over the weekend after the children's father and his partner left for work on Saturday morning. Investigators believe the children entered a nearby parked vehicle and, for reasons that have not yet been established, became trapped inside. The car had been left outdoors near the family's residential building.
The alarm was raised shortly after 6:00 p.m. when a neighbor noticed the children inside the locked vehicle and contacted police at the British military base. Officers and emergency medical teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
When paramedics arrived, they found signs of rigor mortis, indicating the children had died several hours before they were discovered. Their bodies also showed superficial burns consistent with prolonged exposure to the extreme heat inside the closed vehicle. The children were transported to a hospital, where doctors formally pronounced them dead.
