Two Bulgarian children, aged 8 and 10, were found dead in Cyprus after reportedly being trapped inside a locked vehicle for more than three hours, according to new details published by the Cypriot outlet “Fileleftheros”.
The incident took place on June 28 in a car parked in an open field near a residential area close to the British base in Dhekelia. Emergency services arrived shortly after the alarm was raised, but both children were pronounced dead at the scene. Medical findings point to severe physical effects from prolonged exposure to extreme heat, including burns and advanced muscle rigidity.
The boys had arrived in Cyprus in mid-May for their summer stay with their father, a welder working in Limassol, and the woman he was living with. According to investigators, on the day of the tragedy both adults left for work, leaving the children alone in the apartment.
Security camera footage reportedly shows the boys going outside and entering the car, where they began playing. The recording later stopped, as the system activates only when movement is detected. For reasons still under investigation, the children remained inside the locked vehicle for several hours.
Around 5:30 p.m., the stepmother discovered them and alerted authorities. With no access to the keys, the vehicle’s windows were broken in an attempt to reach the children.
