A public square named after Vilnius, featuring a pedestrian bridge inspired by the King Mindaugas Bridge in Lithuania’s capital, has been opened in Kyiv’s Obolon district.
Vilnius mayor Valdas Benkunskas said in a press release that the square was "a symbol embodying the close friendship between Kyiv and Vilnius".
Vilnius Square is the first and so far only project in Ukraine funded through direct support from Lithuania’s Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund.
Vilnius City Municipality said on Monday that it had allocated a €600,000 targeted contribution via the fund. The implementation of the public space project was overseen by the Central Project Management Agency.
In 2025, total support provided by Vilnius City Municipality to Ukraine amounted to more than €930,000.
