Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree launching preparations to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

Zelensky announced this while speaking during Constitution Day celebrations, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Ukraine will mark such milestones as the Lavra's millennium with dignity. Preparations begin today because this is a long and painstaking process. It involves restoring and preserving dozens of cultural monuments, museum collections, and the Lavra's buildings – our great heritage and one of the world's centers of Christianity. This requires extensive joint efforts, and we are starting that work today. We must also celebrate the Lavra's millennium in the spirit of the unity that strengthens and protects our people and our state. I am signing the relevant decree here and now," Zelensky said.

The President noted that the Lavra will celebrate the 975th anniversary of its founding this August, with preparations already looking ahead to its millennium.

Zelensky stressed that the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is one of the oldest spiritual centers of the Christian world and an integral part of Ukraine's national identity.
