Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took part in the opening of the exhibition “Spiritual Treasures of the Nation: The Sacristy of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” to mark the Lavra’s 975th anniversary, where he also met with UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany.
According to Ukrinform, Zelensky announced this on Facebook.
“It is very important to preserve our cultural heritage despite deliberate Russian attacks on it and to do everything possible to pass it on to future generations. And it is significant that UNESCO Director-General El-Enani is here with us today, visiting Ukraine for the first time in this capacity. Thank you for this meeting and for keeping our country in the organization’s focus. Together with UNESCO, we can and must do more to ensure that every Ukrainian site worthy of inclusion on the World Heritage List receives this status and support,” the head of state noted.
The President’s website reported that the event was also attended by: UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General (UNWTO) Sheikha Nasser Al-Nuwais; Jacques Herber, the Swiss Federal Council’s delegate for Ukraine; Vahan Kostanyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia; and Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kyiv and All Ukraine, Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
