Ekurhuleni mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has called for peaceful protests
The City of Ekurhuleni says it is fully prepared for the planned march on Tuesday, June 30, with Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza urging protesters to exercise their constitutional rights peacefully and within the law.
The mayor confirmed that the municipality had activated comprehensive contingency measures involving law enforcement agencies and various City departments to safeguard residents, protect public infrastructure and maintain order throughout the demonstration.
“The right to protest is an important part of our democracy. However, this right comes with the responsibility to ensure that all actions remain within the confines of the law,” Xhakaza said.
While the statement did not identify the organisers or outline the specific reasons for the march, it said the City had been working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the event proceeds safely.
