March and March Movement claims eThekwini Municipality refused permission for its planned 30 June protest, citing security concerns, and says it will challenge the decision.
The March and March Movement has threatened to proceed with its planned 30 June march despite alleging that the eThekwini Municipality refused permission for the gathering on the grounds of a “national security threat”.
Jacinta MaNgobese -Zuma, leader of the movement, claimed the municipality had declined authorisation for the protest scheduled for Tuesday, 30 June, following engagements with metro police and South African Police Service (SAPS) officials.
“After sitting in our section 4 meeting!! The City of eThekwini has refused us the right to protest on the 30th of June, citing a security threat,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
The claim relates to the March and March Movement, which said it formally submitted notice of the planned protest on 15 June 2026 in terms of the Regulation of Gatherings Act.
