The head of the water and sewerage operator in the Nessebar area has been formally charged in a corruption case involving an alleged 8,000-euro bribe, while the second detained official has been released without charges, authorities confirmed following a multi-day investigation.
The case centers on the director of the ViK-Nessebar unit, identified as Svilen Stanchev, who was detained during a specialized police operation in the Kosharitsa area. The technical manager, described as his deputy in practice, was initially arrested alongside him but later released after prosecutors concluded there was insufficient evidence of involvement.
According to investigators, the probe began in late May and early June after a complaint was filed alleging that money was being requested for the connection of properties to the water supply network. During the operation, authorities say Stanchev received 8,000 euros from a witness acting under controlled conditions. He was subsequently detained in a company vehicle, where the marked banknotes were recovered.
Searches carried out after the arrest reportedly uncovered additional material evidence. Authorities say around 33,000 euros in cash were found at his home, along with a notebook containing multiple names and technical documents related to water connection procedures, which investigators believe should not have been in private possession.
