Police officers secure the area in Houghton following the shooting of suspended Major-General Feroz Khan.
Major General Feroz Khan, the suspended Deputy Head of Crime Intelligence, has been hospitalised following a suspected targeted shooting in Houghton on Sunday night, just days before he was set to appear at the Madlanga Commission.
According to preliminary reports, two unidentified gunmen travelling in a white Mercedes-Benz opened fire on Khan before fleeing the scene.
Investigators recovered at least two spent bullet casings, while reports indicate Khan suffered gunshot wounds to his lower body.
He was rushed to Netcare Milpark Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
