Fundraising events are set to take place next week to support the renovation of Centennial Hall at Saint Joseph’s College in Alafua, with former students of the school and supporters from Samoa, American Samoa and overseas preparing to take part.

The Marist Brothers Old Pupils Association (MBOPA) said that the three-day programme will mark the start of a major fundraising effort to upgrade the long-standing hall, which needs structural repairs and must meet safety standards.

MBOPA representatives from Samoa travelled to American Samoa over the weekend to help with preparations for the events. More members are expected to arrive in the coming days. Support is also expected from other former students in Australia and New Zealand.

The project has been planned for some time because of the high cost of the renovation. The hall remains an important part of the school’s history, and the upgrade is looking to improve facilities for future students.

The fundraising programme will include a golf tournament on Thursday at Ili’ili Golf Course, a corporate table event on Friday at the DWYA Youth Centre, and a raffle on Saturday. Raffle tickets are being sold at outlets in Tafuna and Nu’uuli, as well as a booth opposite the Samoa Money Transfer office.
