Two Samoan women in Australia are moving closer to their goal of sending a container of school supplies and classroom furniture to Samoa, with plans to ship it once they raise the remaining funds needed.

The initiative, called “Weaving For Our Future”, is led by Lamauta Dr Vaoiva Natapu-Ponton and Laurissa Pona-Baker, who are based in Brisbane, Australia.

Since launching the campaign, the pair have raised AUS$5,218 to help cover the cost of shipping a container filled with desks, chairs, bookshelves, books, and other educational supplies to Samoa.

Dr Vaoiva said additional funds had been raised since the campaign received media attention, thanks to community support, individual donations, and fundraising activities.

"We have had increased funds since the article was released through initiatives using a raffle system where 20 numbers were purchased for $50 and the winner received $300, while the remaining funds went towards the container," she said.
