It stated that she showed no visible signs of illness while on campus that day.
The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has attributed the delay in securing medical attention for one of its final-year students, Miss Grace Osunlakin, to restrictions imposed by an unannounced Oro ritual in Ifetedo community, saying the development hampered efforts to transport her to a health facility before she died.
The university made the clarification in a preliminary report issued on Friday, in response to what it described as "misleading narratives circulating on social media" regarding the circumstances surrounding the student's death.
According to the institution, the late Grace Osunlakin, a final-year student in the Department of Criminology and Security Studies, Faculty of Liberal Studies, College of Law, Ifetedo Campus, had successfully defended her final-year project on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
The university disclosed that she completed her project defence at about 1:15pm before a panel chaired by the Head of Department, Dr. Ademolu Adenuga, after which she interacted with her project supervisor and fellow students before returning to her privately rented off-campus residence.
