But this isn’t a full-fledged phone. Instead it’s more like a portable monitor that’s meant to pair with your phone.Connect it to an iPhone or compatible Android phone and you can mirror your screen to the Link 2, effectively giving your smartphone a high-contrast, sunlight visible, matte black and white screen. Available now for $329, the Link 2 is thinner than the first-gen model from 2023, and supports a faster screen refresh rate. But it seems like the new version only supports wireless screen mirroring: there’s no wired version available. The good news is that Dasung says this means the Link 2 is “fully compatible with iPhones,” although you will need to adjust your iPhone accessibility settings in order for your phone to recognize touch input from the portable display. Android support, however, appear to be more limited.Dasung says smartphones from “Honor, OnePlus, an Samsung have complex system environments and are not compatible,” while some features including the ability to cast your screen when the phone display is turned off or “full-screen gestures” may only be available on some devices or after tweaking some settings.Given those limitations, I can’t help but think that most folks would be better served by picking up a standalone device with a similarly-sized screen (and price tag) like the Onyx BOOX Palma 2 or Viiwoods AiPaper. But I suppose there’s something to be said about not having to load all of your apps and data onto a second device. The Link 2 features a greyscale E Ink display with 300 pixels per inch and a front light with support for brightness and color temperature adjustments. You can also turn off the front light to view the screen using only ambient light.Dasung notes that the new model also supports screen refresh rates up to 60 Hz, but like with most E Ink screens that offer refresh rates high enough for video playback, you’ll sacrifice some visual quality and see some ghosting, tearing, or jitter at those rates. One other thing to keep in mind? The Link 2 doesn’t have a built-in battery. Instead there’s a USB Type-C port that allows you to connect a power bank or USB power adapter. Dasung offers a bundle that includes the Link 2 portable monitor and a 5,000 mAh battery for $349, and the company says that when combined, they weight just 260 grams (9.2 ounces), or about the same as a large phone. But you could also bring your own power bank if you already have one.The Link 2 itself weighs 155 grams (5.5 ounces) and has an aluminum alloy body that measures 171 x 87 x 7mm (6.7″ x 3.4″ x 0.3″) at its thinnest point. It also has a built-in speaker and physical buttons for controlling display settings, the front light, and power.
