The iFlytek Fika is a pocket-sized eBook reader with a 6.13 inch, 824 x 1648 pixel E Ink Carta 1300 greyscale touchscreen display, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 2580 mAh battery, and an operating system based on Android 15.The most interesting thing about this gadget though is that unlike most Kindle or Kobo eReaders, it’s small enough to fit in your pocket like a phone, making it easy to take anywhere. It also has a 4G modem, but as far as I can tell it’s for data only, not voice. So the Fikay may look like a phone, but it’s not really one. The company hasn’t announced international pricing or availability for the Fika yet, but it looks like it should be launching soon in China. The pocket-sized eReader measures 159.4 x 80.3 x 6.7mm (6.28″ x 3.16″ x 0.26″) and weighs 140 grams (4.9 ounces). And while it runs Android and supports third-party apps, it’s clearly designed first and foremost for reading. Its E Ink display features 300 pixels per inch and has a front light with adjustable brightness and color temperature. If you prefer listening to reading, in addition to supporting audiobooks and podcasts, the Fika has a text-to speech function. With a single USB Type-C port and no headphone jack, you’ll either want to use a USB dongle or Bluetooth for headphones though.Interestingly, while the device supports WiFi 6, its Bluetooth capabilities top out at BT 4.2, which should be fine… but it does feel a few generations behind. The iFlytek Fika is powered by an unspecified 6nm MediaTek octa-core processor, and because its 2026, of course there’s a dedicated AI button on the side that you can press to trigger an “AI Reading Assistant.”But the thing I find the most interesting about the iFlytek Fika is how it’s… not as interesting as it would have been a year or two ago because there are a growing number of phone-sized eReaders hitting the market. The Onyx BOOX Palma kicked things off when it launched in 2023, and since then we’ve seen a bunch of additional models including the Onyx BOOX Palma 2, DuRoBo Krono, and Viwoods AiPaper, all with 6.13 inch displays. And that’s not even the even smaller, cheaper (and simpler) models that Xteink has been producing. That said, the growing number of devices in this category either suggests that eReader makers are either gambling that they can take a little bit of market share from the Onyx BOOX Palma or that they think there’s enough room in the market for multiple players.via NotebookCheck
