Market inspectors in northern Greece confiscated and destroyed more than 15,000 counterfeit products over a three-day operation in Halkidiki, as authorities step up checks in popular tourist destinations.

The seized goods, mainly clothing and accessories, were removed from the market by the Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection. Administrative fines totaling €208,250 were imposed on vendors found selling counterfeit merchandise.

Inspectors also fined 16 beachside catering and service businesses a combined €13,500 for failing to display price lists and committing other regulatory violations.

The authority said inspections have intensified since the start of June in tourist areas including Attica, Corinth and Halkidiki. During that period, 97 businesses operating on beaches were inspected, with 33 violations related to the sale of goods and provision of services identified.

Those inspections resulted in an additional €27,500 in fines, the authority said.
