THE IT manager at the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) was killed in Charlieville on Wednesday after he was ambushed by a gunman.The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Sa-id Khan of St Augustine.Khan was shot around 8 p.m. while sitting in a Honda Vezel sports utility vehicle in a parking lot of an insurance company along Caroni Savannah Road.Police say the gunman shot at the vehicle, shattering the front windscreen and front windows. Khan, who was hit multiple times, died at the scene.

Police cordoned off the site and searched the area, but found no suspects. A motive for the murder remains unknown.Speaking to the Express yesterday, PCA director David West described Khan as a professional and jolly person.“He fitted very well in with the Police Complaints Authority, with our family, and everybody loved him. He was a genuine guy, who enjoyed his work; very professional. He was a joy to be around,” he said.West said Khan had been employed at the PCA for the past six months, where he functioned as the IT manager. He reported that before working at the PCA, Khan worked at National Flour Mills.Asked whether the incident may have been linked to his employment at the PCA, which is an independent, Parliament-established civilian oversight body to keep watch over the police, he said: “I can’t comment on that, but he’s the IT manager so he doesn’t have any direct dealings with any case. He’s the manager of the IT system.”West said the Authority was unaware of any leads in the case.Khan was a father of two and was separated from his wife. The PCA head extended sympathies to the bereaved family. “On behalf of the Police Complaints Authority, we’re very sorry to lose an employee in that manner, in that fashion. We wish his family all the best to cope and recover and just to know that crime is very high in Trinidad and Tobago, and I wish everybody just to be careful and safe out there,” he said.The murder toll currently stands at 184, compared to 187 for the same period last year.
