Unidentified persons stole a bag containing 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery from a bus in Salem on Thursday (June 25, 2026).According to the police, Prabhu (46), a resident of Coimbatore, is working at a jewellery shop. On Wednesday night, he was heading back to Coimbatore from Tiruvannamalai in an air-conditioned government bus. Upon reaching the Ayothiyapattinam market in Salem district, the bus stopped at a bakery in the wee hours of Thursday.Prabhu went to the bakery after leaving the bag with 400 grams (50 sovereigns) of gold jewellery on his seat. When he returned, he found the bag missing. On information, the Karipatti police came to the spot and inquired, which revealed that two persons who had come on the bus were missing.
