Unidentified miscreants broke into a house in Rameswaram and stole 16 sovereigns of gold jewellery.Police said, Mareeswaran, 55, a government bus driver, resided in the New Road area under the Rameswaram Municipality limit.On Tuesday, he along with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law, went to his native village, Ilandhaikuttam, to attend a temple festival.Upon returning home on Wednesday morning after finishing the temple festival, they were shocked to find the front door of the house broken open, two wardrobes in the room opened, and 16 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth ₹17 lakh kept inside missing.Dhanushkodi police have registered a case.
