In a daring robbery, three masked men robbed over 90 sovereigns of gold from the house of a businessman Sri Aravind Ram in Sivakasi on Saturday night.The police said that Mr. Aravind Ram, who is running a departmental store in the town, had gone out with his family members for eating out at around 10.30 p.m.When the family members returned home in their car at around 11.30 p.m., they were shocked to find the main gate of their house broken open. Even as they tried to enter the house, they heard honking of horn from an SUV that was parked nearby.Within a few seconds, three masked men rushed out of their house with a bag.The robbers brandished lethal weapons at the panicked family members, including two children. They threatened them with dire consequences and made their way towards the waiting SUV and they fled the scene in a flash.The police said that the robbers could have been caught unawares of the sudden appearance of the family members.“As they were alerted by their associate through the SUV horn, they had come out hurriedly with the jewels filled in a bag. The panicked robbers had failed to close the zip and while running out, few gold ornaments fell down on the ground,” a police officer said.Sivakasi Town police are investigating the incident and trying to track the SUV with the video footages of CCTV cameras installed in the city.
