The European Commission has signed the declaration of accession to Pax Silica, the strategic initiative led by the United States aimed at building secure and resilient supply chains for semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals necessary for chip production. This was confirmed by European executive spokesperson Thomas Regnier during the daily press briefing, explaining that a "senior official" from the Commission traveled to the US on Tuesday to sign the declaration and will be at the summit today for the launch of the initiative.

"I recall that we also received a mandate from the Council, and this is obviously crucial for us, because we must ensure the security of our semiconductor supply chain. It is of primary importance for our resilience, for technological progress, and for our economic security: it is therefore truly crucial for the European Union as a whole," Regnier emphasized.
