Could a functioning vehicle horn prevent road accidents? Experts and drivers say it could and have warned that the lack of the basic safety feature could increase the risk of road accidents.
Road safety officials say vehicle horns remain an essential warning device, allowing drivers to alert pedestrians and other motorists to immediate danger, particularly in congested traffic or sudden driving situations.
A representative from the Police Traffic Division confirmed there have been incidents in which a functioning horn could have helped prevent a crash.
"Yes, there have been situations where a working horn could have prevented an accident," the officer said. "A horn is one of the quickest ways for drivers to alert others of immediate danger, especially when there is little time to react."
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said a working horn is required for all vehicles to pass inspection.
