The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) launched two major projects on Wednesday (June 24, 2026).Bhimili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao and VMRDA Chairperson M.V. Pranav Gopal performed the bhoomi puja and unveiled the foundation plaques for the proposed projects at Yendada and Mithilapuri.Strategic developmentThe projects, being executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, include a Virtual Reality (VR) Centre and a three-star hotel on the Law College Road at Yendada, and an Middle Income Group (MIG) housing project at Mithilapuri.Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the State is fast-tracking its development agenda. He said that, with the Bhogapuram International Airport nearing completion, the areas surrounding Madhurawada are being developed to mirror the growth trajectory of Hyderabad’s Gachibowli and Madhapur regions. “Andhra Pradesh has become a haven for investments,” he added, urging officials to ensure the timely completion of the VMRDA projects.Focus on innovation and housingVMRDA Chairperson M.V. Pranav Gopal said Visakhapatnam is rapidly emerging as a hub for IT industries and artificial intelligence. “The establishment of the Virtual Reality Centre, developed under the PPP mode, will provide a massive boost to tourism and technological growth in the region,” he said.Addressing the housing initiative, Mr. Pranav Gopal said the MIG project was launched to address the aspirations of city residents who dream of owning a home. He assured that the authority has incorporated public feedback to ensure the delivery of high-quality residential units.
