The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) is racing to complete the construction of the anti-drug park at City Central Park to meet its August deadline.VMRDA chairman M.V. Pranav Gopal, during a recent inspection of the project site, emphasised that the facility is designed not merely as a recreational space, but as a ‘unique platform’ to promote awareness and encourage healthier life choices among the younger generation. The theme park, an initiative aimed at sensitising the youth to the dangers of substance abuse, is being developed across two acres within the premises of the VMRDA City Central Park. Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu had laid the foundation stone for the project, which carries a budget of approximately ₹3.5 crore, last year.During the site review, the chairman directed the engineering wing to expedite the remaining works and incorporate sustainable features, including solar-powered lighting. “This is the first of its kind initiative dedicated to addressing drug abuse through public awareness in a park setting,” Mr. Pranav Gopal said.He further noted that the VMRDA is moving toward transforming all its parks into net-zero energy facilities, with the anti-drug park serving as a model for utilising clean and renewable energy. Inspired by the ‘Drugs Vaddu Bro’ campaign, the park aims to offer an immersive experience that highlights the harmful impacts of narcotics.Officials, including the VMRDA Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and executive engineers, participated in the inspection to ensure that the project meets quality standards ahead of its August deadline.
