U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 1.2% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.6%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 fell 0.8% in morning trading. INFICON Holding rose 8.1% and Zealand Pharma added 4.8%. On the other hand, Signify slipped 13%, and Fresnillo dropped 6%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.6%. Other stocks in Europe were down as France's CAC 40 declined 0.8% and Germany's DAX fell 1.2%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index was flat at 97.26.

In commodities, Brent crude dropped 1.6% to $76.69 a barrel, and WTI crude fell 1.5% to $72.75 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was down 0.4% to 41.71 euros a megawatt hour.

The German 10-year Bund yield declined by 3 basis points to 2.931% from 2.96%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell by 3 basis points to 4.484% from 4.516%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
