A 36-year-old man died after falling from Sofia’s Lion’s Bridge following an altercation that unfolded in broad daylight at one of the capital’s busiest intersections. Police have detained three men between the ages of 20 and 30 as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.

The incident was reported shortly after it occurred, prompting a rapid response from police and emergency medical teams. Despite their efforts, doctors were unable to save the victim, who had fallen onto the concrete riverbed of the Vladayska River below the bridge. Firefighters later assisted in recovering the body.

According to initial information, the confrontation may have been linked to a small amount of money. Some witnesses said the dispute involved around 40 euros, while others claimed the argument was over roughly 10 euros and several cigarettes. Authorities have not yet confirmed a motive.

One of the key eyewitnesses, Rumyana Alexandrova, said she watched the events unfold from only a few feet away and immediately alerted police. In a social media post after the incident, she wrote: “I just witnessed something horrific on the Lion’s Bridge in the center of Sofia. After a scandal, a man was thrown off the bridge in front of my eyes. It was about 40 euros. Is that how much a human life is worth?”
