A 59-year-old construction worker died after falling about 6 meters at a worksite at the Panhellenic Exhibition grounds in the central Greek city of Lamia, authorities said Thursday.
The man fell Wednesday afternoon while working as part of a construction crew at the site, suffering critical injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Lamia General Hospital, where doctors tried to save his life, but he later died from his injuries.
The worker, a father of three originally from the western Greek region of Achaia, was employed by a crew carrying out work at the exhibition grounds.
Police in Lamia have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal workplace accident.
