According to the group, teachers should reject any attempt by the Oyo State Government or other stakeholders to end the strike without concrete assurances regarding the rescue of the abducted teachers and students.
A civil rights organisation, the Campaign for Democratic and Workers' Rights (CDWR) has called on public school teachers in Oyo State to consider transforming their ongoing indefinite strike into a coordinated weekly 24-hour strike and protest action as part of efforts to sustain pressure on authorities over the abduction of teachers and students in Orire Local Government Area.
The group said the proposed strategy would allow for broader participation by teachers, parents and other stakeholders while ensuring regular mobilisation and evaluation of the struggle for the safe release of those still being held captive.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its State Coordinator, Abiodun Bamigboye, also known as Abbey Trotsky, the organisation called on the Oyo State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to immediately convene a congress of teachers across the state to democratically review the ongoing strike and determine the next phase of the campaign.
According to the group, teachers should reject any attempt by the Oyo State Government or other stakeholders to end the strike without concrete assurances regarding the rescue of the abducted teachers and students.
