IBADAN — Teachers and civil society groups in Oyo State have called on the government to intensify efforts to secure the release of teachers and pupils abducted in Ogbomoso, warning that the safety of educators and schoolchildren can no longer be taken for granted.

The call was made during a peaceful protest organised by the Oyo State Teachers Action Group with the support of the Nigeria Teachers Congress, NTC.

Addressing the protesters, National President of the NTC, Reverend Bunmi Thomas, said the demonstration was aimed at drawing attention to the plight of the abducted victims and urging the government to take more decisive action.

The teachers and pupils were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, in the Esiele and Yawota communities of Ogbomoso.
