Monday will begin under mostly calm conditions across Bulgaria, following a quiet and largely clear night, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology. The start of the new week is expected to bring weather more typical of the summer season, with sunshine dominating most parts of the country.
Throughout the day, clear skies will prevail over much of Bulgaria. During the afternoon, however, cloud development is expected over western regions, where towering cumulus and cumulonimbus formations may trigger brief showers, thunderstorms, and localized hail. Forecasters note that these unstable conditions will be concentrated mainly in the western part of the country.
Temperatures will remain firmly in summer territory. Daytime highs are forecast to range between 29°C and 34°C, while Sofia is expected to reach around 30°C. The hottest conditions are likely to be recorded in the Danube Plain and the Upper Thracian Lowland, where the heat will be most pronounced.
Along the Black Sea coast, weather will remain generally pleasant, with temperatures between 26°C and 29°C. A light to moderate east-northeasterly breeze is expected to provide some relief from the warmth.
Mountain areas will also enjoy sunny conditions during the first half of the day. By the afternoon, however, atmospheric instability over the ranges of Western Bulgaria will lead to the formation of powerful storm clouds. These are expected to bring short-lived rainfall and thunderstorms, continuing the pattern of isolated summer storms in elevated areas.
