Authorities investigating the disappearance of a 45-year-old woman in Hania, Crete, now believe that she might have been murdered, after finding evidence pointing to a homicide, state-run broadcaster ERT reported Saturday.
Stavroula Leventaki went missing from the village of Ayia on May 30, but the disappearance was reported from her brother seven days later.
According to the information cited in the report, police officers found traces of the woman’s blood in the van of her 44-year-old tenant who was renting her house in Ayia.
The suspect was being interrogated by the police over the woman’s disappearance but has not confessed to a crime. He was initially arrested for possession of cannabis seedlings which were found in a place that he allegedly maintained together with another person. The 44-year-old had disappeared two days ago and was located late Friday night. According to what he allegedly told the police, he had received threats from the brother of Leventaki and decided to go into hiding.
