The opposition party described the court order as a dangerous weaponisation of the judiciary by the authorities, assault on democratic values and the rule of law.

The Lagos State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has strongly condemned the revocation of the bail granted to its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and the issuance of a bench warrant against him by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The opposition party described the court order as a dangerous weaponisation of the judiciary by the authorities, assault on democratic values and the rule of law.

In a statement issued by the Lagos State Chairman of the party, Samson Olanrewaju, the AAC berated President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government of pursuing a campaign of intimidation and political persecution against one of Nigeria’s most vocal opposition figures.

According to the party, the move against Sowore raises serious concerns about the use of state institutions in ways that create the impression of political victimisation and erode public trust in the independence of democratic institutions.
