The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has strongly condemned the remand of its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, describing the court's decision as a politically motivated attempt to suppress opposition voices in Nigeria.
In a press conference statement signed by the Chairman of the AAC FCT Chapter, Agena Robert Ande, on Monday, June 23, 2026, the party stated that the judicial process leading to Sowore's remand was compromised and influenced by political interests.
The party stated: "We the African Action Congress, FCT Chapter, totally condemn the remand of our Presidential Candidate, Comrade Omoyele Sowore. What transpired in court was not justice. It was a political execution scripted to break the spirit of opposition."
According to the statement, the court proceedings reflected what the party described as a deliberate effort to target political dissenters. The AAC accused the presiding judge of abandoning judicial neutrality and acting under political influence.
"The presiding judge abandoned every code of judicial conduct and acted the script given to him either physically or instructively by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his political allies. The refusal to recuse himself despite manifest bias, the humiliating order for Sowore's lead counsel to kneel in open court, and the revocation of bail on a date not allocated for hearing confirm what we have always said: the judiciary is being used as an attack dog for Aso Rock," the statement said.
