Tanzanian singer and songwriter Mimi Mars has officially released her debut album, 17, a 15-track project that arrives after two years of development and signals a significant milestone in her music career.
The album sees her delve into themes of love, heartbreak, healing and personal growth while blending several genres that have shaped her sound, including R&B, Afropop, Afrobeats and Bongo Flava.
For years, Mimi Mars has built a reputation through a string of singles and collaborations that showcased her vocal ability and songwriting style. With 17, she takes a more expansive approach, using a full-length project to tell stories drawn from different emotional experiences and stages of relationships.
Speaking about the album, she described it as a reflection of growth, vulnerability and new beginnings. According to her, the project captures a range of emotions, from romance and heartbreak to confidence and self-discovery.
