As many as 6,001 establishments in Coimbatore and the Nilgiris districts have registered under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY). These units have 2,19,626 employees under the scheme, including 74,815 new members and 1,44,811 rejoining members.A press release from the Employees Provident Fund Organisation, Coimbatore regional office, said this employment-linked incentive scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August last year to promote formal employment generation and strengthen social security coverage across sectors. Both, first time employees and employers who generate additional jobs get incentives under the scheme. It is expected to incentivise creation of more than 3.5 crore jobs in the country over a period of two years.Five employers handed over appointment letters to 10 new recruits at the event held in Coimbatore on Friday.Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P. Rajkumar said at the incentive distribution function that manufacturing hubs like Coimbatore are resilient and have overcome challenges that came with demonetisation, GST, and so on.
