The Special Court for the trial of cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Coimbatore on Friday awarded life imprisonment on eight counts to two men for attempting to murder four persons on caste grounds in 2017.Judge K. Vivekananthan awarded the punishment to P. Senthilkumar (33) and V. Chinnadurai (42), natives of Srivaikuntam in Thoothukudi district.As per the prosecution case, the two men had been working in a poultry farm at Kullichettipalayam near Kinathukadavu in 2017. Four Scheduled Caste men, namely K. Karuppu, M. Kalimuthu, M. Sadayandi and R. Sundarraj from Dindigul district, were employed with them. Senthilkumar and Chinnadurai assaulted them on caste grounds, annoyed over a song played aloud on the night of November 3, 2017. The two men were arrested for offences, including attempt to murder and different sections of the SC/ST Act.The court found them guilty of the crime and slapped a fine of ₹16,000 besides the life imprisonment.
