The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nagapattinam, has urged the railway administration to introduce a daily train service between Puducherry and Velankanni via Karaikal. It has sought extension of the Villupuram-Mayiladuthurai passenger up to Velankanni via Karaikal. A few representatives of the chamber met Balak Ram Negi, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, at Nagapattinam railway station on Friday and submitted to him a memorandum containing the above mentioned demand and a few others.In the memorandum, chamber president G. Manoharan sought the introduction of an unreserved express train service between Karaikal and Salem via Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, and Namakkal. The timing of the train should be in such a way that it provided a connection to the Coimbatore-Mayiladuthurai-Coimbatore Jan Shatabdi Express at Thanjavur Junction.Introduction of a daily day time superfast express train between Tambaram and Velankanni via Thirunallar, Karaikal, Nagore, and Nagapattinam; extension of the Tiruchi-Tiruvarur passenger service (56805/56806) up to Velankanni by providing a halt at Nagapattinam station and changing the Ernakulam-Velankanni weekly express via Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchi, and Thanjavur as a daily service were the other demands of the association.
