Summer has a way of making change feel possible. The days are longer, the mornings less punishing, and even the smallest tweak to your day – a walk before work, a better breakfast, five minutes without your phone – can suddenly feel more doable. And best of all, these tiny changes will leave you feeling calmer, healthier and happier by the time the season is out.

Spend 10 minutes outside before 10am

“Whether it is enjoying your morning coffee in the garden, taking a short walk or simply standing outside, 10 minutes of exposure to natural daylight before 10am helps to regulate your body clock, supporting better sleep, energy and mood. I like that this habit doesn’t require extra fitness, expensive equipment or hours of commitment – it is simply about creating a small pause before the day takes over. By the end of summer, those daily 10 minutes can leave you feeling calmer, more energised and refreshed.” Kate McCaffrey, wellbeing coach and member of Life Coach Directory

Wear sunglasses more than you think you need to

“People in the UK tend to think sunglasses are mainly for holidays abroad, or even just a fashion accessory, but you need to protect your eyes more than you think. Even on cloudy days, harmful ultraviolet rays can penetrate and reach your eyes, causing cumulative damage that may not become apparent until years later. Wearing sunglasses whenever you spend extended periods outdoors, whether you are driving, gardening, walking the dog or watching sport, is a simple habit that can help reduce this risk. Look for lenses that block 100 per cent of UVA and UVB rays. Protecting your eyes should become part of your everyday routine.” Mfazo Hove, consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Blue Fin Vision
