The body of a newborn male infant was found abandoned in a thorny thicket on the outskirts of Ongole town, opposite OPS School on Gandhi Road, on Thursday.Locals residents immediately informed B.V. Sagar, project director of a voluntary organisation 'HELP’, who informed Prakasam District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) P. Dinesh Kumar.District Women and Child Welfare Officer P. Nagamani reached the spot, and notified the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the local police, and the anganwadi workers.“An inquiry has been initiated to determine who abandoned the infant and to ascertain whether the child was born out of wedlock or had died due to illness," Mr. Sagar said."The body was shifted to RIMS Hospital for post-mortem. Later, based on a complaint filed by local anganwadi worker Aruna, Ongole Taluka Sub-Inspector P. Chowdayya registered a case and launched an investigation," he added.
