The eThekwini Municipality has recommissioned the oThongathi Crematorium following a R6 million refurbishment aimed at restoring critical cremation services and addressing infrastructure backlogs in the city.
The eThekwini Municipality is taking steps to improve public services by recommissioning the Tongaat Crematorium, as part of efforts to restore essential public services and ageing infrastructure challenges.
The facility had experienced prolonged service disruptions due to broken and malfunctioning furnaces, which caused significant inconvenience to affected communities.
More than R6 million was invested to replace the faulty furnace infrastructure.
The installation, testing and commissioning of new equipment has now restored full cremation services at the facility.
