The Samoa Airport Authority said the brief power outages at the Faleolo International Airport were due to low-voltage conditions in the Electric Power Corporation(EPC) supply. However, the utility said that they recorded no power outages to the feeder supplying the airport.

In a recent report by the Samoa Observer, EPC Chief Executive Faumui Tauiliili Iese Toimoana said EPC records show no outages on the feeder supplying the Airport Authority at the time.

“According to our records, there were no recorded power outages on the feeder supplying the Airport Authority during the period in question,” he said.

In a public statement, the Samoa Airport Authority said the airport's backup generator automatically started when the power disruption occurred and supplied electricity to the terminal building.

However, the generator later shut down after detecting a technical fault. They later found the problem was linked to the standby generator's Engine Control Unit and a fault in its diesel fuel supply line.
