The police were trying to identify a woman whose body was found in an unused well at Sirumugai on Wednesday.According to the police, the body, stuffed in a plastic sack, was found in an unused well on the premises of a private company at Sirumugai. The premises had remained locked and unused for the past 15 years. Three persons from Tiruppur, who are into catering business at Then Tirupathi four road junction, had taken the premises on lease and began renovation to convert it into a marriage hall, said the police.Nagarajan (37), who had been entrusted with supervising the renovation work, visited the premises on Wednesday morning and noticed a stench emanating from the well. He found a plastic sack floating in the well and immediately alerted the police. A team from the Sirumugai police station rushed to the spot and took out the sack from the well with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Services personnel. When opened, a decomposing body of a woman was found inside, the police said.Senior police officers visited the crime scene, where a scientific officer of the police, dog squad and fingerprint experts were deputed.Sirumugai Inspector K. Selvan said the body, which appeared to be two to three days old, was shifted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is on.
